Brunch at Simone Lemon

July 15, 2016

Last weekend, I had brunch at Simone Lemon, a new restaurant based in the 9th in Paris that fights agains food waste. It might give you ideas for this Sunday’s brunch.

Simone Lemon concept

Simone Lemon’s concept comes from the observation that 40% of fruits and vegetables produced in France are not getting to the final consumers. Indeed, irregular-shaped fruits and vgetables are not part of our supermarkets and markets shelves. First of all for practical reasons as fruits and vegetables with improper calibration take too much space and are difficult to implement. Distributors’ dream would be to sell square-shaped eggs (I know what I am talking about, I have never told you but I have a food sciences engineering degree). Anyway, it’s for all these reasons that Japanese have developed the square-shaped water melon. And also for marketing reasons as consumers are not attracted by strange shapes fruits/vegetables. Sadly, it is how food sector is working.

To give a chance to these fruits and vegetables that are as good and as healthy than the others, Elodie and Shéhrazade had the good idea to found Simone Lemon.

What can we eat at Simon Lemon?

Local producers from the region provide Simone Lemon (it’s better for the carbon index to buy local). All the dishes are fresh and hand made.

The menu is designed to satisfy every tastes, food habits and specificities : there are salads and fish dishes for the healty part, meat for gourmets, gluten-free dishes for gluten intolerants, lactose-free desserts and so on. All the ingredients are labelled, which is very conveninent for people who have food allergies.

Concerning the brunch I have tested : it is a formula with a hot drink, a fresh juice and an unlimited access to the buffet. A great variety of products is available : bread, viennoiseries, warm pancakes (gluten-free), salads, meats and cheese, hot dishes with chicken, bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, and side dishes, and desserts. I loved the desserts. I advise you pistachio and coconut tapioca with strawberries (a delight!) and the strawberries tiramisu.
